Jacqui L. - Culminating Project

http://jloughrylia2.pbwiki.com/Loughry-To2C If you follow the link above, you will find a series of wikis I created for my English class. From this main page, students accessed the page for their assigned character and added the information requested by the assignment to the wiki. They will do this two more times as we read "A Tale of Two Cities." At the end of the novel, students will be writing a character analysis. They can choose any character and use the quotations and analysis from that character's wiki! This way, the force of the whole class's combined work is behind each individual paper. I'm hoping for deeper levels of analysis overall in these papers due to the access to other people's ideas on the wiki. I created individual accounts for this wiki for each student, so only my students are able to edit the wikis (this literally took less than a minute to do on PBWiki).

  1. I like the way your wiki has separate pages for each of the characters you wish to have students comment upon. It looked like it helps to keep things organized and keeps there from being unrealated comments strung together.

  2. Hi Jacqui. I agree with Bruce. This seems highly organized for the students. When project is posted, it also contains a wiki through Wetpaint, another free wiki site. I can't say that I had difficulties with pbwiki, I just preferred Wetpaint (it was much prettier for me!). I think that you will enjoy using this because you can add other novels and topics. I am going to look into posting other documents like Power Point presentations to the site as well. Currently, I have posted Word documents, so I know that works. I was just wondering if it is just as easy on pbwiki.

  3. I have to agree with the others. The instructions were clear, each character having its own page. You did well organizing it. The students have taken to it as well. I browsed through the quotes and they really thought them out! This will make a great resources for the individual papers.

  4. I agree with everyone above. Your wiki was very organized with clear instructions. I like that you posted them on each page so students to not have to keep clicking back to check instructions. How exciting to see this project already in use by your students! Good luck!

  5. Hi:
This is one of the easiest wikis I have viewed. Its simple, easy navigation, and content and assignment is specific and organized. The other thing that is very helpful is you have repeated the same instructions for each character that is found on the main page. This helps prevent having to go back and forth between pages to make sure the input for each assignment is correct. I also like the way you highlighted key words and phrases and used bullets to focus the assignment - makes knowing what has to be done easy to figure out.
    Cheers

  6. WOW! I know we were only to comment on two projects - but looking at all the ones submitted - this class has gone above and beyond - KUDOS! Now, this one was too cool! I'm so new at this, but I am definitely going to make use of the WORDLE. Great Job!

  7. I really like the content in your wiki. It exemplifies exactly what we have been studying. It engages the students, allows them to create and write, while covering the material of the class. I am emailing a link to a couple English teachers in my school as an example.
